Washington limited No. 15 Mt. Pleasant to four goals in Thursday?s Southeast Conference girls? soccer match, but the Demons were unable to score to keep the match close in a 4-0 loss to its rival.
?We had some good opportunities to score, but just couldn?t capitalize on them,? Washington head coach Kyle Collins said. ?Kayla Schindler had some shots on goal, but she just couldn?t get it into the back of the net. We were playing fairly good soccer, but just couldn?t get any points on the board.?
Mt. Pleasant (9-2, 6-0 SEC) led 2-0 at halftime, and then added a third goal three minutes into the second half. Senior Holly Long had a hat trick for the Panthers, and senior Samentha Phommachack added the fourth goal. Junior Megan Myers assisted a pair of goals, and sophomore Elissa Monteiro also had an assist.
Still, Collins was proud of his Demons (1-7, 0-5 SEC) for hanging with the Panthers.
?We actually played fairly decent,? Collins said. ?A couple of girls were playing excellent defense. Sam Mullens, it?s her first year playing soccer, and she?s getting better and playing excellent defense. Stephanie Evans had 20 saves that game. She played an excellent game.?
