Demons fall in Grinnell
The Washington volleyball team didn?t get off on the right foot over the weekend.
The Demons opened their season at a tournament in Grinnell on Saturday, and fell in the four matches they played against Centerville, Clear Creek-Amana, Iowa Valley and the host Tigers, only claiming one set on the day.

The Washington volleyball team didn?t get off on the right foot over the weekend.
The Demons opened their season at a tournament in Grinnell on Saturday, and fell in the four matches they played against Centerville, Clear Creek-Amana, Iowa Valley and the host Tigers, only claiming one set on the day.
Washington opened up the day with a match against Centerville, which saw a quick set victory.
The Demons claimed a 21-17 win in set 1, but Centerville turned things around, defeating Washington 21-6 in the second set, and winning a decisive third set 15-9.
Washington was led by Amber Salow?s four kills in the match, while McKenna Brinning had two aces for the Demons. Emma Stout led the team with six digs, while Megan Mitchell had seven assists.
Against Clear Creek-Amana, the Clippers swept the Demons in two sets, 21-11, 21-11, as Washington fell to 0-2 on the day.
Washington only mustered five kills against the No. 4 team in Class 4A, led by Jessie Buchholz?s two. The Demons served at a rate of 90.5 percent and had three aces in the match.
Against the host team, Grinnell, the Tigers cruised to victory against the Demons, winning 21-11, 21-7.
Washington had three kills in the match, while Stout led the team with two aces in the match.
The Demons were a perfect 13-for-13 in serving attempts in the match.
In the final match of the day against Iowa Valley, Washington fell in the first set, 21-13, then lost a tight second set, 21-20, to fall in the match.
Salow had a team-high three kills to lead the team, while Stout added two more aces and five digs to her credit.
Washington will look to get its first victory of the season on Tuesday afternoon, when they join Columbus and Keota at a tournament in Wapello.
