WELLMAN — Washington basketball put together a complete game Tuesday night on the road at Mid-Prairie.
Despite not having leading scorer in senior Logan McDole, who was out with illness, the Demons found themselves firing on all cylinders on their way to a 68-50 win.
The Demons couldn’t have asked for a better start, as they raced out to a 13-2 through the first three minutes of the game and they would never trail.
Mid-Prairie closed the quarter well despite the slow start, ending with a 7-1 run to make it 14-9 after one quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Washington’s Seth Shepherd. The Demons scored 17 points in the second period, Shepherd had 12 of them with four made triples.
A Shepherd three highlighted a 6-0 run for the Demons to start the quarter, extending the Demons’ lead to 20-9.
From the five minute mark on, the next three buckets by the Demons all came from a Shepherd three. Each came off a Mid-Prairie score.
Drew Conrad got in on the three point shooting in the quarter as well, connecting on one to end the half. Washington led 31-19 at the break.
Washington’s biggest scoring struggle of the game came out of the break.
Through four minutes, the Demons scored just three points, which allowed the Golden Hawks to get it back within a point, 34-33. During that period, Mid-Prairie scored 14 points.
The Demons got it going again in the final two minutes, as they closed out the frame with a 9-2 run to make it 46-38 heading into the fourth.
Washington’s spurt to end the third extended into the final period. In all, the Demons rattled off a 21-5 spread between the third and fourth, which culminated into a 20 point advantage at 58-38.
Mid-Prairie never had an answer.
Drew Conrad finished with a game-high 20 points for Washington. Seth Shepherd ended with 18 points off the bench. Kael Williams scored 10 as well.
For Mid-Prairie, Brady Weber scored 16 points. Kaden Kos came off the bench and added 12.
Washington moves to 8-10 with the win, while Mid-Prairie drops to 14-4.
