Demons get road victory

OSKALOOSA - In a nonconference battle Monday, Washington got a girls win, 54-32 over Oskaloosa.
Halle Leyden went 6 of 11 including 4 for 7 on 3-pointers to score 19 points in the win.
'We ran a couple of plays to start the second half to get her shots and the girls ran them perfectly and she knocked the shots down,” Washington head coach Shannon Rugg said. 'Isabel Bailey played maybe her best game of the year at point guard. She got us in our sets and got the ball to our shooters at the right time.”
Bailey doled out seven assists to her Demon teammates and scored nine points. Kira Ropp and Olivia Pach had six rebounds apiece. Ropp chipped in eight points.
The demons were hot shooting the ball, going 7 of 14 on threes and 11 of 12 at the foul line.
The Demons took a 10-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. It was 23-13 at the half and 43-24 starting the final period.
The Demons have played nine straight road games, but host Fairfield Friday.
Belle Plaine 38, WACO 34
Kristen Conley made three 3-pointers in the first half and two more in the second half for her total of 15 points for WACO.
The game was tied at 6-6 after the first quarter but WACO took an 18-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The home team still led after the third quarter of play 27-22. The Plainsmen doubled the home team 14-7 in the final period to get the win.
Belle Plaine improved to 9-4 while WACO has a 4-11 record.
WACO plays host to Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division foe Cardinal (1-13) tonight.
