Demons go 2-3 at East Marshall dual tournament
Washington ran into some tough competition at Saturday?s East Marshall dual tournament, and the Demons went 2-3 on the day.

Washington ran into some tough competition at Saturday?s East Marshall dual tournament, and the Demons went 2-3 on the day.
The Demons opened the tournament with a 45-27 win over Benton. Sophomore 106-pounder Michael Witt, junior 113-pounder Fletcher Green, junior 160-pounder Austin Latcham, sophomore 170-pounder Brad Skubal and senior 195-pounder Aaron Kempf each pinned their opponents. -ranked Keaton Sherwood with 11 seconds left in the first period. Sophomore 220-pounder Kyle Collier won a 4-1 decision, and the Demons received a pair of forfeits.
Washington lost to Independence 54-21. Green, Collier and junior 152-pounder Tanner Knupp each pinned their opponents, and junior 120-pounder Tristan Pohren won a 3-1 decision. Skubal lost a narrow 1-0 decision to sixth-ranked Kyle Fank at 170 pounds.
The Demons rebounded by edging the host Mustangs 38-30. Latcham, Skubal and Collier each pinned their opponents, while Green won by technical fall. Knupp, Kempf and sophomore 145-pounder Alex Gonzelez each won by decision.
La Porte City Union, the sixth-ranked team in Class 2A, defeated Washington 56-23. Pohren, Skubal and Witt each pinned their opponents, and Green won by technical fall.
South Tama topped the Demons 57-18. Knupp pinned seventh-ranked Levi Kaufman in just 1:02 at 152 pounds, and Green and Pohren also won by fall. Skubal hung with top-ranked Erik Lux at 170 pounds, only losing a 15-9 decision.
Washington (18-4) travels to Davis County on Thursday night for a non-conference dual meet.
