It was a good night for the Demon and Golden Hawk boys to put up the measuring stick, and they did so with positive results.
Washington and Mid-Prairie traveled to Mt. Pleasant to take part in an unscored meet on Thursday evening, and it was a good night, according to Demon track head coach Steve Roth.
?I thought we had some improvement in things,? Roth said. ?That?s what I?m looking for. That?s what last night?s meet was about, since it wasn?t scored. It?s good to see where you are at, because there was no pressure on anybody. We had two or three events I really thought that we saw what they can do.?
Washington had five events finish in the top 10 individually on the night, highlighted by top 5 finishes by Caleb Bex in the 110-meter hurdles and Michael Ellingson in the long jump.
Bex also helped the shuttle hurdle relay finish in fifth at the meet.
?Caleb is running well,? Roth said. ?He ran well in the highs and ran a low 200 time in the medley. Then he came back and ran well in the shuttle. That?s what we are looking for from him. We want to move him around and get him into other events.?
Washington?s Bryce Rickey picked up a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash, with sophomore Ryan Reighard earning a seventh-place nod in the 200.
Ellingson capped off his night with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
Mid-Prairie?s day at Mt. Pleasant featured a championship from junior Levi Duwa in the shot put, posting a throw of 52 feet ? 2 inches. Duwa also took fourth in the discus on the day.
The 1600-meter medley relay finished in second on the day for the Hawks, as Quinn Schmidt, Keaton Duwa, Cary Schaefer and Peyton Miller combined for a time of 3:48.98.
The Hawks also saw Andrew Scwartz earn third-place finishes in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run, while Floyd Evans finished in fourth in the 1600.
Marshal Teets picked up a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
