WASHINGTON — Last season, in the final game before Christmas break, Washington headed down to Fort Madison and walked out with a loss.
Things changed this time around, as the Washington welcomed the Bloodhounds into their house and handed them their fifth loss on the season and into the winter break with a loss, 57-37.
On the contrary, the Demons will head into the holiday break on a positive note.
The two squads battled early and often in their Monday night matchup, but neither team could find the means to pull away.
On the bright side, Washington never trailed after a quarter in the competition.
After one quarter of action, Washington held onto a slim 12-9 lead. That slim margin thinned out even more heading into the half as Fort Madison took the second period 11-10 to cut the Demon lead to 22-20.
Out of the locker room and halftime break, Washington blew the roof off.
Not only did Washington put together its best scoring quarter of the night, they also hunkered down on the defensive end.
The Demons poured in 18 points in the third period, while holding the Bloodhounds to just six.
A two point advantage at the half, turned into a 40-26 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, Washington was able to ride it out. The Demons went on to outscore Fort Madison 17-11 in the fourth to grab their fourth win of the season.
Ajay Six finished with 17 points in the win. Aden Six followed with 12 and Avery Six added 11. The Demons move to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in Southeast Conference play.
Washington will not be back in action until they host Fairfield on January 6.
