A new season began on Thursday night, as the annual Demon Indoor Invitational kicked off the Track and Field season.
Washington and Highland were the two area teams in attendance at the meet, which kick-starts the spring sports season into full swing.
At its own invitational, held at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, the Demon girls? track team saw six different events place in the top 10, while Highland?s girls had one finish in the top 10.
Washington senior Amber Salow had the best finish of the day, taking fourth place in the first long jump competition of the year.

In other field events, Washington junior Mackenzi Marek cleared 4-feet-8 in the high jump, finishing in a tie for seventh place.
McKayla Miller started her senior season out strong with a ninth-place finish in the shot put, throwing a 30-10.5, but barely missed out on qualifying for the finals.
In the track events, senior Kelly Wheeler started her year off with a strong 60-meter dash, running an 8.66 to finish 10th in the prelims, before posting an 8.63 in the finals to finish in eighth place.
