Demons join the rankings

After a huge win against Bettendorf on Friday night, the Washington Demons are ranked in both the Cedar Rapids Gazette and Associated Press football polls. The Demons are now the top-ranked team in the Union Coverage area, rated No. 4 in the Class 3A Gazette poll and No. 6 in the AP. Washington also got one No. 1 vote in the AP poll.

Washington joinss Sigourney-Keota in the rankings. S-K is unanimously No. 8, getting slated at eighth in Class 1A in both polls.

A handful of area teams also received votes for the first time this season. In the AP poll, all three Union coverage Class 8-Man teams received votes, as WACO picked up 10, New London had 7 and Winfield-Mt. Union got 2. In the Gazette's Class 3A poll, Mt. Pleasant picked up one vote.

The two polls agreed on which schools to rank No. 1 in all six classes.

West Des Moines Dowling, Dallas Center-Grimes, Monroe PCM, Ida Grove OABCIG, Grundy Center and Don Bosco were all given the top spots in their respective classes in both polls.

The Gazette poll's Class 1A rankings held the only unanimous No. 1. Ida Grove OABCIG swept the votes.
