Washington has simply controlled the Southeast Conference in the sport of cross-country as of late, and there aren’t many signs of slowing down, as the Demons are favored coming into the 2023 season.
On the girls’ side, the Demons were simply dominant in 2022, winning the conference crown by 31 points, and getting to the state meet as a team for the first time ever.
The Demons put three runners in the Top-4 of last year’s conference meet. That includes Iris Dahl, a will-be sophomore who finished Top-10 at state after taking second in the conference. Junior Alyvia Anderson returns after a third-place finish, and junior Quincy Griffis returns after finishing fourth.
Also eligible return are juniors Kendall Hinrichsen, Loran Horak and Angeline Anderson, all of whom finished in the Top-10 in the conference.
SEC champion Micah Rees leads the Demon boys back, after Washington won the conference by three points over Fort Madison last season. Rees enters his senior campaign.
Other Top-10 returners for the Demons include Tyler Alderton, a junior who went to state along with Rees last year, and senior Lane Schrock.
