WASHINGTON — The Fort Madison Bloodhounds may be one win away from a postseason berth, but Washington might have something to say about it. The Demon football team welcomes in Fort Madison for a district clash to close out the 2023 season.
Washington (2-6, 1-3) and Fort Madison (5-3, 2-2) are both eliminated from getting one of two automatic playoff spots in Class 3A District 4, but the Bloodhounds are currently in the mix for an at-large spot thanks to the RPI. The Demons could end any hopes of that by beating the Bloodhounds on Friday night.
Washington will have to deal with Fort Madison gunslinger Marcus Guzman, who has thrown for 1,241 yards and eight touchdowns, while also rushing for 482 yards and 11 scores. The Demon defense looks to capitalize on Guzman’s eight interceptions thrown this season.
Washington also will have to watch out for running back Hayden Segoviano. Segoviano has rushed for 416 yards and three scores this year.
Demon quarterback Logan McDole has tossed the ball around for 718 yards and six touchdowns this year, while only getting picked off four times. His favorite receiver, Mason Morgan, has eclipsed the 300-yard mark, running for 302 yards and four scores.
Washington running back Kael Williams could get to 600 yards rushing in this one. He currently sits at 553 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
The Demons will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak to Fort Madison. The Demons had owned the recent all-time series up to that point.
Friday night’s showdown will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
