The 2022 Washington football team went 5-4 last season after starting just 2-4.
The Demons scored two wild victories, beating Keokuk 28-27 on the road and storming back to stun Fairfield 35-28 at home, before blasting West Burlington 27-6 in the final game of the year.
Unfortunately for the Demons, the team missed the playoffs by just a hair, as Grinnell won their final game of the season to grab the last spot.
The Demons will have a tough time replacing all the talent lost to graduation. Washington loses starting quarterback Ethan Patterson, starting running back Tayven Stuart and leading receiver Jude Brown, among many others.
Luke Beenblossom, who caught 80 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown last year, is entering his senior year. He is one of the few big names from last season to be entering his senior season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a few of the Demons’ leading tacklers do return. Senior Casen Evans finished second with 66 tackles last season. Senior Chase Greiner had 38.5 tackles. Senior Alec Ulin finished with 32, and senior Nicolaus Dittrich ended the year with 31.5.
