Demons name team’s season awards

WASHINGTON - A glorious season was celebrated by the Washington Demons football team Sunday with a banquet.

The season fell short of the Demons' stated goal of a state title-winning season, but anyone who watched the passion the Class 3A District 5 winning team played with saw that they were champions on and off the field.

'Everyone had an integral part of this season,” WHS head coach James Harris said.

Harris was especially grateful for the seniors.

'I thanked them for the commitment the last four years,” Harris said. 'They are leaving the program in a good place.”

Core Value Exemplar Award: Lucas Kroll

Honey Badger Award: Ethan Zieglowsky

Offensive Player of Year: Wyatt Stout

Defensive Player of the Year: Wilx Witthoft

Most Valuable Player of the Year: Trashaun Willis

Co-Special Team Players of the Year: Jacob Miller and Ethan Patterson

Junior Varsity Offensive Player of the Year: John Prochaska

Junior Varsity Defensive Player of the Year: Kole Williams

Junior Varsity Most Valuable Player: James Strabala

Freshman Offensive Player of the Year: Clay Fishback

Freshman Co-Defensive Players of the Year: Nic Dittrich and Chase Greiner

Most Valuable Player of the Year: Casen Evans

'The seniors were tremendous stewards of our program,” Harris said. 'Our program's goal is that they take the principles we've tried to instill with core values into the next chapters of their life.”

The entire team was acknowledged for Excellence in Academic Achievement with a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0.

All-District All-Academic players with a GPA of 3.25 or above are Samuel Ackerman, Kasen Bailey, Evan Miller, Prohaska, Zane Wefenstette, Olin Wells, Williams, Zieglowsky, Kroll, Adam, Carter, Reece Mayer, Stout, Strabala, and Willis.
