The season opened up with a strong offensive showing from the Washington baseball team on Tuesday night.
The Demons hit the road to face Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a single game to open the year, and used 13 hits to claim a 10-1 victory over the Rockets.
?(It was) a complete effort out of the gate,? Washington baseball head coach Nathan Miller said. ?We did well with the little things we?ve been working on. We put a lot of pressure on the defense, and we swung it well. We had 10 swinging hits and three bunt hits on the night.?
The Demons were led by three hits and three RBIs from Cole Embree, who notched a double to his day to open the season.
Bryce Craff, Noah Enfield, Dakota Kron and Zach Londberg each posted two hits in the contest as well.
On the mound, the Demons used a pair of pitchers to combine for the seven-inning win.
Tanner Coleman earned the start, allowing three hits and one walk in three scoreless innings, while Zach Londberg finished off the game, pitching four innings of two-hit ball, only giving up one run, which was unearned. Londberg struck out three in the game.
The Demons were held quiet through he first two innings, before Bryce Craff reached on a single, later scoring on a wild pitch.
The Demons added another run in the fourth, before exploding for four runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
?We did a great job adjusting to their pitcher,? Miller said. ?We faced a lefty, and it?s different, because they are typically crafty. It took us until the second time through the lineup to figure him out, but we did the little things well?
The Demons will open up their home schedule on Wednesday, hosting a doubleheader against Clear Creek-Amana at 5:30 p.m.
