Demons, Panthers run at Wartburg
Washington gets 5 champions, Mt. Pleasant’s Davidson is triple winner

WAVERLY — The Washington and Mt. Pleasant track teams were in Waverly on Tuesday for the Wartburg High School Invite, and it was a big day for the Demons and Panthers, who each had multiple champions.
Washington secured five wins on the day. The Demons, in all, placed 11 events in the Top-five. Mt. Pleasant had four winners and seven Top-5 finishes.
Washington’s wins came mostly in the boys’ competition. The Demon boys won four events, two individually and two via the relays.

Elijah Morris and Micah Rees each had an individual win on the day. Morris won the 200-meter dash, crossing the tape in 22.67 seconds. Rees took first in the 800-meter run, crossing in 2:09.53.
In relay races, the Washington boys took first in both the 4X200 relay and the 4X400 relay.
The 4X200 team of Ethan Patterson, Cameron Vongpanya, Alec Ulin and Jude Brown took first in 1:35.89. The 4X400 squad of Ulin, Logan McDole, Patterson and Morris won in 3:32.89.
The Demon boys had one second place finish, as Brayden Hartman threw the shot put 52 feet, 5.50 inches to take silver. The Washington boys’ 4X800 team of Drew Horak, Sawyer Tschantz, Micah Rees and Andrew Rees finished third, in 8:56.41.
The final Top-5 finish for the Washington boys went to Mason Morgan in the 55-meter hurdles. Morgan took fourth, in 8.44 seconds.
The Washington girls had four Top-5 finishes, including a first-place finish from the 4X800 team. The quartet of Grace Voss, Lauren Horak, Abigail Kleese and Iris Dahl won in 10:29.88.
Dahl scooped up a third-place finish in the 800-meter run. She crossed the tape in 2:33.50. Grace Voss had a third-place finish for the Demon girls in the high jump, leaping 4 feet, 8 inches.
The Washington girls had a Top-4 finish from Leighton Messinger in the 55-meter hurdles. She crossed the line in 9.48 seconds to secure fourth.
Mt. Pleasant’s Will Davidson had three wins on the day. Davidson finished first in the 55-meter hurdles, the 400-meter dash and the long jump.
Davidson crossed the tape of the 55-meter hurdles in 7.72 seconds. He won the 400-meter dash in 53.28 seconds, and lept 21 feet, 5 inches in the long jump to scoop up a win in the field.

Avin Truong had a nice day as well. Truong gave the Panthers a win in the 55-meter dash, hitting the finish in 6.78 seconds. Truong also took third in the long jump, finishing a couple of spots behind Davidson with a leap of 20 feet, 1 inch.
Isaac Jerrel had a fourth-place finish in the boys shot put. he threw the shot put 47 feet, 10 inches. Truong had a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 24.23 seconds.
The Mt. Pleasant girls didn’t have any Top-5 finishes on the day. Elsie Lange had the best night for the Panther girls, leaping 15 feet, 6 inches in the long jump, for sixth.
