MT. PLEASANT — Thursday was a busy day in Mt. Pleasant to say the least.
The Panthers played host to Iowa Girls and Boys Class 3A State Qualifying Track Meet.
Track and field teams competed for top two finished, as a win or runner-up placement earned an automatic bid to the state tournament.
Third-place finishes and on would have to be decided by time, based on the other qualifying times from around the state.
For the Union area it was a great day of action on the track and when they needed it most at that.
In a meet that featured Solon, Clear Creek-Amana, Fort Madison, West Burlington and Keokuk it was a fantastic showing for the area squads.
On the boys’ side, Washington notched a second-place finish with 130 points.
Mt. Pleasant took fourth with 91 points and Fairfield finished seventh with 38.
For the girls, Mt. Pleasant led with 115 points.
Washington followed in fourth with 102 and Fairfield ended in fifth with 64.
Solon swept both the boys and girls’ team titles.
Washington’s leads the area teams with 20 total selections through boys and girls.
Mt. Pleasant takes 13 total to state. Fairfield will take three.
For the Washington boys, Brayden Hartman gets himself back to the state tournament with a first-place finish in shot put.
Hartman won the shot with a throw of 55 feet, 1.50 inches.
In discus, Hartman finished third with a throw of 140 feet. Despite not automatically qualifying with a top two finish, that throw was good enough to get him a spot.
Josh Anderson is heading to state after grabbing wins in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meter wheelchair.
In the 1600 and 3200, Micah Rees will represent Washington.

For Morris is was a tough night though as he was injured during the 100-meter, ending his night prematurely.
The injury kept him out of the 400 and 200, both of which he was favored in. Morris led the class in both events and was searching for his third straight 400 state title.
Also getting in was the sprint medley team was Ethan Patterson, Aidan Ulin, Alec Ulin and Morris. The quartet ran a time of 1:35.12 for first.
In the 4x400, the Demons picked up a second-place finish to punch a ticket.

Voss was the meet champion with a leap of five feet, one inch.
Iris Dahl will wear the black and orange in two events.
Freshman Dahl placed second in both the 800 (2:22.91) and 1500 (4:59.87) to earn her first bid.
Fellow freshman Leighton Messinger finished third in the 100-meter hurdles, but a time of 16.47 was enough to get her in.
The Demon girls also had a pair of relays make it.
In the 4x400, despite a third-place finish, a time of 4:13.60 was enough to get Voss, Messinger, Eden Levetzow and Dahl through.
The same was true in the 4x800. Voss, Lauren Horak, Kendall Hinrichsen and Dahl placed third with a time of 10:00.35, but it was fast enough.
