Demons pick up pair of victories

The Washington softball team doubled their win total over the weekend behind a pair of strong pitching performances.
After falling in a pair of games at a tournament held in Muscatine, the Demons came back on Saturday, claiming a pair of victories over Davenport Central and Muscatine.
In the victories, Haylee Wilson pitched a four-inning, one-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory over Davenport Central, while Taylor Dicks tossed seven innings of four-hit ball in a 3-1 victory over Muscatine.
In the game against Davenport Central, the Demons took advantage of the Blue Devils? mistakes, scoring their 12 runs on eight hits and six walks.
Senior Anna Wheeler had a big game, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while sophomore Jessie Buchholz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three
RBIs.
Freshman Morgan Brinning went 2-for-2 in the contest with a run and an RBI.
In the game against Muscatine, the Demons put up seven hits, with senior Kolbi Breard accounting for two of them, scoring one run.
Megan Strabala and Mackenzie Knutson accounted for the other runs in the game, while Megan Mitchell and Brinning each had RBIs for the Demons.
During Friday?s games, the Demons were able to pick up a number of hits, but fell in both games, with a 10-2 loss to Durant and a 10-4 loss to Louisa-Muscatine.
Against Louisa-Muscatine, Breard led the charge with two RBIs in the contest, as Strabala and Brinning each had two hits. The Demons had seven hits in the contest, as only six of the 10 runs given up went down as earned.
Against Durant, the Demons had 10 hits in the contest, but only brought home two runs, scored by Brinning and Breard, with RBIs credited to Mitchell and freshman Brooke Stout.
Eight of the 10 runs given up were earned in the contest.
Washington will face a tough test on Monday night when they host No. 11 ranked Keokuk for a conference doubleheader.
