WASHINGTON — Fort Madison controlled the game for nearly its entirety in Thursday night’s Southeast Conference matchup against Washington.
The Bloodhounds held the lead through six and a half innings, never trailing until late in the game.
The Demons, however, came alive in dramatic fashion to force extra innings, but ultimately fell short, losing 6-4 in the eighth.
Through five innings, the game remained close, with Fort Madison clinging to a 1-0 lead established in the second. They extended that margin with two more runs in the sixth to go up 3-0.
Washington’s offense had struggled to capitalize early, but in the seventh inning, they rallied. With the game on the line, Julian Parsons, Isaac Medrano, and Ethan Peebler all crossed the plate to even the score at 3-3.
Unfortunately for the Demons, Fort Madison responded with three runs of their own in the top of the eighth. Washington managed to plate one run in the bottom half of the inning but couldn’t push the game any further.
Blayze Richardson led the Demon offense with two RBIs, while Conner Leyden and Isaac Medrano each drove in one.
With the loss, Washington drops to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in Southeast Conference play.
The Demons were also in action on Friday, with a road trip to West Branch. Washington fell in that one 5-0.
