Washington track athletes get tune up before the start of March

IOWA CITY — Washington Demon track and field had a nice tune up this weekend as they competed in an Iowa Games Indoor Competition in Iowa City.
Washington didn’t bring the entire team to the meet, but those who competed brought back five Top-2 finishes.
The lone Washington winner was Elijah Morris, who finished first in his best event, the 400-meter dash. Morris, the two-time defending Class 3A state champion crossed the tape in 47.62 seconds to beat the field.
Morris had two Top-2 finishes on the day. He finished the 60-meter dash in 7.07 seconds for second place.
Also taking second was Alec Ulin, who finished right behind Morris in the 400-meter dash. He finished the race in 52.04 seconds.
The girls’ team had two Top-2 finishes. Grace Voss was second in the 800-meter run, crossing in 2:35.64. She also took seventh in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 29.52 seconds. Ally Rees threw the shot put 32 feet for second.
Andrew Rees was sixth in the boys’ 1500-meter run, getting to the tape in 4:51.29.
Cameron Vongpanya and Eden Levetzoe each had a seventh-place finish. Vongpanya finished the 200-meter dash in 23.61 seconds, and Levetzow crossed seventh in the 400-meter dash.
Another Top-15 finish in the 400-meter dash went to Drew Horak. horak crossed the line in 59.05 seconds, for 13th.
Brayden Hartman competed in the boys’ shot put competition, but finished with a scratch.
