FAIRFIELD ? The frustration in head coach Julianna Berg?s voice was pretty clear after the Demons? 25-13, 25-9, 25-6 loss to Fairfield was pretty straightforward.
?Every game is a learning experience,? Berg said. ?Walking away from a game not feeling great about yourself is a time where you can make the most growth. Things are always easy when you?re winning, but it?s how you respond when you aren?t that will say more about you than anything, and I hope they come in tomorrow and give it their all in practice.
?One good thing about these girls is that they are always working hard and giving it their all.?
The Trojans came off their third loss of the season on Saturday and weren?t about to drop a home conference game to the 6-21 Demons. Almost every time Washington would get the serve on a Fairfield mistake, the Trojans would get the ball right back.
?We talked about creating our own enthusiasm and momentum, and the girls did a good job of that tonight,? Fairfield head coach Nancy Diers said. ?Momentum is such a huge thing in volleyball. The minute we made a mistake, we turned around and got it right back. You never know how the girls will respond and react off a loss and I appreciate them for the way they did.?
?There are going to be nights when things aren?t going your way and you have to find some way to give something to your teammates,? Berg said. ?We have to limit those runs where the other team gets three, four, five points on us in a row and put a stop to that momentum.
?Sometimes, it?s just not your night.?
Thursday, the Demons will host Keokuk, whom the team beat in five sets on Sept. 15, in the final home match of the year.
