Two senior captains made the difference in Friday's Southeast Conference 73-64 victory over the vistors from Fort Madison.
Cade Hennigan went for 14 points and Kolten Hinrichsen had eight.
'Those two are captains for a reason,” Washington coach Collin Stark said. 'It definitely showed. They have been a big part of what we are doing all season. Kolton hit some big shots with his threes. Cade is our energizer bunny. He just continues to work.”
The Demons jumped out to an 8-point lead as Trashaun Willis got a rebound and a putback, then hit a 3-pointer.
Ft. Madison took its only lead of the game at 18-17 but trailed 32-25 by halftime. It was still a seven-point Demon advantage after the third quarter at 47-40.
Trevor Quigley scored all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter to help Washington pull away.
Willis finished with 15 points.
'This is a good win for us,” Stark said. 'It helps us get to where we need to be. It is going to help us out with seeding for the postseason. This win should guarantee us being a three or a four seed. Last year we were a six and this year we're fighting for three or four and that shows progress. I'm really proud of the way the guys played.”
The Demons picked up another win when Williamsburg came to town Saturday night. The Demons sprinted out to a 22-4 advantage after the first quarter, nearly scoring enough to win the game. The final score was 64-26.
The Demons are 8-8 with a game at Mt. Pleasant Friday the next scheduled game, but efforts to make up previous games will be made.
The Demons have won four of their last five and six of their last eight.
