The Class 3A Region 2 tournament was unforgiving, as both Washington and Fairfield were knocked out in Saturday’s opening round matchups.
The Demons traveled to Assumption for a game that ended 61-34 in the Knights’ favor. Fairfield was upended 75-31 at No. 2 Solon.
The Demons fell behind early, as Assumption led 22-5 after one quarter. Washington played the Knights closer after that, but Assumption continued to build on its lead, going into halftime with a 38-17 edge and stretching that to 52-22 after three.
Washington did end its season by winning the fourth quarter. The Demons put up 12 more points in the final eight minutes, compared to nine on the part of Assumption.
The night spelled the end to the careers of seniors Makenna Conrad, Iris Peterson, Alex Murphy and Kaylin Long.
The Trojans were done in by a barrage of Spartan buckets in the first half of their game. The Spartans led 20-6 in the first quarter and put up 26 in the second to lead 46-13 at the break.
Solon won the third quarter 12-4. Fairfield scored nearly half of its 31 points in the fourth period when they tallied 14 points in the last eight minutes.
For Fairfield, it was the last game for lone senior Ashlyn Lisk.
