Demons win 4 over weekend

IOWA CITY - A four-game win streak over the weekend were certainly welcome for the Washington High School softball team after two tough Southeast Conference losses to Fairfield Thursday.
The Demons played two games Friday and two games Saturday and won all four.
On Friday, The Demons defeated Iowa City West 4-2 with three runs in the third inning. Kellie Dallmeyer went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Alexa Mitchell also had a run batted in. Molly Sparks pitched the win with just one walk, five hits and seven strikeouts.
Washington downed North Scott 7-5, taking a 4-3 lead in the first inning and led 7-5 after the second. Mitchell pitched the win with two strikeouts, one walk, eight hits but just one earned run. Haylee Wilson, Kinsey Duwa and Dallmeyer had two hits apiece. Dallmeyer and Duwa each smacked a double. Sparks batted in two runs.
Saturday was a successful day on the prairie with the two wins being 6-0 over Class 5A No. 12 Cedar Rapids Prairie and 5-4 over Mid-Prairie.
In the 6-0 shutout, Cara Linnenkamp didn't allow a run while fanning seven, walking three and giving up just three hits. The Demons pounded out 15 hits with sparks leading the way with a 3 for 4 game in the batter's box. RyLee Fishback, Wilson, Mitchell, Dallmeyer and Duwa each connected for two hits.
The Demons gave up two runs in the seventh inning but held on to defeat the Golden Hawks. Mitchell allowed 11 hits, two walks and three earned runs while fanning three. Mitchell helped her cause with two hits and Wilson had two hits. Sparks had a two-run double.
Washington is 5-3 and plays at Keokuk today.
Highland 4, Wapello 2
A home SEISC North Division win Friday improved the Huskies' record to 3-1.
Megan Hoenig gave up five hits, no walks and whiffed four for the victory.
Emily Yahnke's two hits were a triple and a home run.
The Huskies play at Winfield-Mt. Union today.
