A number of season-bests highlighted the Washington girls? golf triangular held at Keokuk on Thursday afternoon.
The Demons used season-best rounds from Brenna Burlingame, Megan Strabala and Meredith Lumberg to help them win their fifth meet of the year as a team.
?That was not an easy course to play,? Washington girls? golf head coach Leonard Kull said. ?It presented several challenges and I thought they did a great job. Those ladies are coming along nicely. It?s important because we?ve been playing at a pretty high level and, quite frankly, in order to give us a little bit of leeway, every member of the team takes it upon themselves to keep improving.?
As a team, the Demons finished with a score of 184, followed by Fairfield?s 19 and Keokuk?s 266.
Washington freshman Sarah Nacos and junior Deanna Peiffer tied with Fairfield?s Lindsey Repp for meet medalist honors, each carding a 43 at the meet.
?Deanna Peiffer has been the most consistent golfer we?ve had on the team,? Kull said. ?She?s had a 43, 44 or 45 all year. She?s been playing at a high level for the entire season.?
Senior Sarah Waite joined Burlingame with a 49, while Strabala had a season-best 53 and Lumberg shot a season-low 56. Brenna Weidman rounded out the scoring with a 63 for the Demons.
Washington just learned it will be traveling to Cedar Rapids to play at St. Andrews Golf Course on May 26 for regionals, and Kull said it will be a challenge.
?I haven?t been there and know nothing about the course, but we?ll find out more as we get closer,? Kull said. ?Hopefully we?ll have a chance to play in a practice round or in a meet to familiarize ourselves with the course. We?ll have our work cut out for us, so we just need to stick together as a team and have each other?s back. No one person will carry the whole load.?
The Demons will travel to Central Lee on Saturday to take part in an invitational.
