CARLINVILLE - Iowa Wesleyan didn't pick up a win in its conference road doubleheader against Blackburn College on Saturday, but one Tiger did come back with a school record.
In the men's game, New London graduate Alex Dentlinger knocked down an incredible 11 3-pointers, going 11-15 from deep on the day to break the record for made threes in a game by two.
The previous record was held by Jared Callanan in 2010, when he hit nine threes.
Despite Dentlinger's incredible night, the men were downed 97-86. The women fell 71-62.
The Tiger men trailed 50-32 at halftime, but stormed back to temporarily take the lead. Dentlinger nailed a go-ahead trifecta with 10:24 left to give IW its biggest advantage, at 68-65.
Blackburn was able to steal the lead back in the final 10 minutes.
Dentlinger finished the night with 36 points, which led all scorers. He took 17 shot attempts, 15 of which were from behind the arc.
Jarryd Fernandes scored 14 points for the Tigers. Austin Banks had nine. Jacob Neubauer and Alberto Torres scored seven each. David Seber finished with six. Marvin Saintolien scored four, and Kaleb Cresswell had three.
The IW women trailed 18-14 after one quarter and 35-27 at the break. The Tigers climbed back to take a lead of their own, going up 52-51 on a Maddie Williamson layup and then leading by three points, at 55-52, after a 3-pointer by Allie Massner with 7:17 left.
Blackburn captured the last lead change with just over five minutes left and never let the lead go again.
Massner scored 14 points to lead IW in the loss. Morgan McCrea finished the night with 13. Maddie Williamson had 12. Sydney Farrar and Deericka Martin scored eight each. Kieley Allen finished the night with four points, and Da'Jaah Swolley scored three.
