District Cross Country: Trojans finish season in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE ? The Fairfield cross country teams ran up against an extremely tough district and walked away empty-handed Thursday in Knoxville.
With the top 10 finishers advancing to the state meet next weekend in Fort Dodge, Jessica Lamb missed the qualifying mark with an 18th-place finish in 16:49. Hannah Sobaski came in 41st (17:56), Tracy Andermann took 60th (18:30), Danielle Garrison was 66th (18:35) and Serena Ward was 72nd (18:56). Alternates for the Trojans included Sage Richmond (84th, 19:17) and Kaitlyn Daugherty (95th, 21:22).
?I thought the girls competed really well,? said Fairfield coach Jerrod Belzer. ?There were a lot of really good teams there and a lot of great individual runners.?
?Obviously we had hoped for a better team result, but I can?t be upset with how well they ran,? he added.
In the boys? event, Randy Andermann paced the young squad with a 39th-place finish in 18:17. Also scoring for Fairfield were Jonah Marks (60th, 19:01), Darrin Dimmitt (71st, 19:24), Logan Swanson (75th, 19:30) and Trevor Starnes (78th. 19:47). Alternates Makena Dettman (82nd, 20:11) and Matt Carr (85th, 20:22) rounded out the varsity squad.
?We only had one guy running that had ever ran in a district meet before,? said Belzer. ?I?m very happy with how well they competed.?
