Tomorrow night?s district track meets will determine who moves on to participate in the State meet in Des Moines next week.
While it may seem easy, it can still be confusing to figure out who will compete on the Big Blue Oval at Drake.
According to both the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, participants in Class 2A and 3A, the top two place winners in each event automatically qualify.
The next eight performances from across the state from qualifying meet place winners (first-eighth place) will also advance to the state meet.
In Class 1A, the top place winner in each event plus the next 14 best performances statewide from each site (first-eighth place) will move on to the state meet.
If there are any ties, the highest qualifying meet place winner will be the qualifier.
If a tie still remains, the school name who is first alphabetically will become the qualifier.
For every event, there will be no more than 24 qualifiers.
Washington competes at Mt. Pleasant and Mid-Prairie travels to Eddyville-Blakesburg for their district competition.
Highland and Columbus will take part in district action at Tipton while Iowa Mennonite, Keota and WACO compete at WACO.
All field events start at 4 p.m. with running events to follow at 4:30 p.m.
The state co-ed track meet is Thursday-Saturday, May 18-20, at Drake University in Des Moines.
