District play began for Classes A through 4A this weekend and the local eight-man district is beginning to shape up.
Two Union Area big schools, Mt. Pleasant and Washington, began district play with wins. The Panthers and Demons picked up homecoming victories over Fairfield and Keokuk, respectively. Solon, the favorite coming in to this year, held their own homecoming party against Ft. Madison.
In District 6, Mid-Prarie rolled Central Lee to move to 1-0. Williamsburg and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont each made quick work of their opponents as well to start things off on the right foot.
Sigourney-Keota continues to be a force in Class 1A, and they flexed their muscle against Wilton in Class 1A District 5 play. Van Buren won a Monday night showdown against Columbus, and Mediapolis picked up a big win over Wapello.
Pekin handed Cardinal its first loss of the year in the Class A District 6 opener. They're now tied with undefeated BGM, who knocked off Highland, and a Belle Plaine team who took down Durant.
Class 8 District 4 still has one undefeated team, as HLV held off New London to bump the Tigers to 1-2. WACO had a huge victory over Iowa Valley on monday night for their first district win.
English Valleys and Lone Tree both won tight games to stick behind HLV in the standings, defeating Winfield-Mt. Union and Montezuma respectively.
