Iowa Wesleyan College?s Ryan Doeppel, a junior from Arcadia, Calif., has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week, as announced earlier this week.
Doeppel had a good week at the plate, hitting .600 with nine hits in 15 at bats as the Tigers won four of five games against MCC foes. The IWC outfielder had at least one hit in all five games, including three doubles, a home run, five runs batted in and six runs, and also stole four bases.
Doeppel wins MCC honors for the first time in his career and is the second Iowa Wesleyan baseball player to receive a weekly honor.
A transfer from NCAA Division I Oklahoma State University, Doeppel has recovered from a slow start to the season to improve his season average to .317, third-best on the team. He has 26 hits, seven doubles, two home runs and 16 RBIs, and also leads the team with 13 stolen bases.
He has helped lead the Tigers to a 5-2 mark in the MCC, good for second in the conference.
The IWC baseball team will travel to Mt. Mercy University this weekend for a two-day, three-game series against the Mustangs.
