Area athletes went and put their best foot forward over the weekend at the Drake Relays, competing among some of the best athletes in the world at the prestigious meet.
From Wednesday through Sunday, athletes from across the coverage area were competing with the best high school athletes in the state of Iowa in the high school section of the meet.
The meet is not separated by class, so big schools and small schools are placed in the same set of results, giving a true sense of where a team stands in the state.
For the results of athletes who competed before Friday morning, including Mid-Prairie?s Levi Duwa breaking a school record, check out Friday?s edition of The Journal.
Washington had one team qualify for the meet, and they competed on Friday night, taking 56th place overall in the 4x100-meter run.
Amber Salow, Kelly Wheeler, Jenah Greiner and Mackenzie Marek combined for a time of 52.16 seconds at the meet, and finished third among the teams (Mt. Pleasant, Davenport Assumption) they will be competing with for a state berth in their district.
Mid-Prairie competed in a pair of events over the weekend, with the 4x100-meter relay team of Ali Butters, Alex Rath, Abby Tornow and Emily Cayton earning 61st place with a time of 52.28 seconds.
Anna Hostetler, who took seventh in the 3000-meter run on Thursday, finished in eighth place in the 1500-meter run, using a time of 4:43.65 to finish 11 seconds off the lead pace.
