DURANT - Highland High School went to the site of last season's football playoff win Friday, but could not duplicate the victory, falling to Durant 34-13.
'Things did not go good,” Highland co-head coach Joe Donovan said. 'Durant did a very good job of sustaining long drives that kept our offense off the field. We put the ball on the ground way too much and couldn't get any offensive flow all night.”
Highland was trailing just 20-13 midway through the third quarter.
Durant then put together two long drives for scores.
'We just fell too far behind,” Donovan said. 'We ran four plays in the third quarter and scored on one of them.”
Owen Donovan rolled up 114 yards rushing on just eight carries. Highland teammate Cole Adamson carried 11 times for 68 yards, 30 of which came on a scoring jaunt. Connor Grinstead was 2 of 5 passing.
'We couldn't control the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball,” Coach Donovan said.
Highland is 4-3, 1-2 and hosts Cardinal Friday.
