COLFAX - Still undefeated and crushing opponents, the Eagles are flying high into the Christmas break.
Three players in double figures and a bench player at nine points helped the Keota boys basketball team cruise to a 70-44 South Iowa Cedar League win Tuesday over Colfax-Mingo. Keota averages 64.9 points a game and gives up 34.1, a difference of 30.8 points a game.
A slow start to the road win resulted in a 10-9 Keota lead after the first quarter but a big second quarter made the score 35-19 at halftime for the Eagles. A 19-14 third quarter advantage made the score 54-33 starting the final frame.
Carson Sprouse led the Eagles with a hot shooting night from the outside, where he made almost as many shots as he attempted from inside the arc. Sprouse finished with 23 points despite making only 33 percent of his free throws. He canned 6-of-9 3-pointers and 2-of-7 two pointers. Sprouse also had four steals, three rebounds and three assists.
Brady Duwa and Wyatt Sieren each blocked three shots for the Eagles. Duwa had four steals and two assists. Sieren had five rebounds, four points, three steals and an assist. Duwa poured in 19 points on 8-of-12 shotting, but was 3-for-6 at the free-throw line.
Luke Hammen filled the Keota stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a blocked shot.
Bryce Greiner not only had nine points off the Keota bench, he was the team's leading rebounder with seven and had three steals. Sam Sieren and Grant Garman each had two points to round out the Eagles' scoring.
The win puts Keota at 8-0 overall with its next game Jan. 5 at home against SICL foe BGM. Keota is 6-0 in the league.
