Eagles, Comets split on the hardwood

ELDON — The Keota Eagles made their way to Eldon on Friday night for a non-conference girl-boy doubleheader. The Cardinal girls pulled away late for a 53-46 win, and the Keota boys responded with a 70-58 victory in the boys’ game.
The Comet girls led 10-6 after one quarter and 21-19 at halftime. The two teams split the third quarter 11-11, leaving Cardinal with a 32-30 lead going into the final period.
Cardinal scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to run away with the win.
On the boys’ side, Cardinal held a 19-11 lead after one quarter, but that advantage was wiped away with a 17-4 Keota run in the second.
The Eagles took a 28-23 advantage into halftime and a 53-46 lead into the fourth before pulling away in the final minutes.
Keota’s Sawyer Stout put up 25 points on the night, despite a 1-for-10 performance from beyond the arc. Evan Vittetoe filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Billie Kindred had 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Cole Kindred had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
