Keota girls basketball maintained its undefeated start to the 2025-26 season Friday. The Eagles logged their sixth win on a night with several Union area teams in action.
Mid-Prairie and Highland are also off to excellent starts to the season. The Golden Hawks and Huskies have just one loss each and added wins against conference competition Friday.
Here’s a roundup of the latest Union area small school girls basketball action.
No. 13 Mid-Prairie 66, West Branch 27
The Golden Hawks bounced back from a defeat to Mount Vernon with a blowout win over the Bears. Mid-Prairie outscored West Branch 40-9 in the first half, including 25-1 in the second quarter.
Morgyn Bender and Jeorgia Evans led the way with 12 points each. The pair also combined for 10 steals. Brooklyn Schneider and Jovi Evans also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Keota 66, Sigourney 52
The pressure of a rivalry matchup wasn’t enough to throw the undefeated Eagles off their axis. Keota had four double digit scorers in the win, led by 16 points from Emily Conger. Freshman Jessalyn Aller contributed 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Cameron Haifley finished with 14 points and Karley Greiner added 10. Kennedy Jackson had seven points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Highland 67, Winfield-Mt. Union 17
Highland gave up just seven points the final three quarters as it rolled to a win over W-MU. Hailey Brun led the Huskies in scoring with 16 points and added four rebounds, three assists and seven steals.
Kamryn Fink achieved a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and matched Brun’s tally of seven steals. Emersyn Schultz and Autumn Guseman scored 11 points each.
Lilly Heckethorn led the Wolves in scoring with six points.
Wapello 40, Hillcrest Academy 39
Hillcrest dropped a heart breaker at home in its fourth game of SEISC North play as Wapello escaped with a one-point victory.
Freshman Brynna Boshart led the way for the Ravens with 14 points in the loss. Niva Helmuth and Claire Withrow each scored eight.
Lone Tree 55, WACO 50
Another close matchup didn’t go an area team’s way as WACO came up short against Lone Tree. The Warriors outscored the Lions 13-10 in the third quarter, but couldn’t overcome a five-point deficit entering the fourth. Both teams scored 13 points in the final period.
Brenna Graber finished with 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. Madelyn Farmer had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
Louisa-Muscatine 53, Pekin 34
Pekin only trailed by two points at the end of the first quarter, but failed to score in double figures in each of the final three periods as the Falcons ran away with the win.
Anna Hadley and Abby Guise both finished with double-doubles for the Panthers. Hadley had 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Guise finished with 12 points and 11 boards.
No. 10 Mediapolis 71, Van Buren County 31
Van Buren County struggled against an undefeated and ranked Mepo team that shot 40.5% from 3 Friday. The Warriors made just 2 of 8 attempts from deep.
Freshman Adalyn Snowgren led VBC with nine points. Sophia Jirak had eight points and four rebounds.
Burlington Notre Dame 51, New London 8
The Tigers suffered a blowout defeat to the Nikes Friday. New London remains in search of its first win of the season.
