NEW LONDON — For four innings on Thursday night, it was anyone’s game between the Tigers of New London and the Eagles of Keota.
However, a scoring surge in the fifth inning gave the Eagles a commanding lead, one of which the Tigers couldn’t get back and Keota took the 12-2 victory.
Through the opening two frames, the Tigers held the advantage.
New London put one run on the board in the first inning and thwarted the Eagles on the base pads through the two innings.
The Eagles got the bats going, but couldn’t find a breakthrough early on in the game.
In the third, things began to change.
Keota brought its first run across home plate in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at 1-1.
The Tigers got back on track half an inning later with their second run of the game in the top of the fourth to make it 2-1, but Keota answered once again in a big way.
In the bottom of the frame, the Eagles again tied up the game, 2-2 and New London would never score again.
Meanwhile, Keota busted open the game with a massive bottom of the fifth.
The Eagles went on to score a whopping nine runs in the frame for an 11-2 lead.
Keota added one additional insurance run to its total in the sixth to cap off the victory.
For Keota, Cole Kindred, Aiden McGuire and Caleb Waterhouse all finished with three RBIs.
Kindred went 3-for-4 in the game. McGuire went 1-for-3 and Waterhouse 1-for-4.
Chase Sieren finished with two RBIs.
Aidan Anderson went 2-for-4 with an RBI as well. Evan Vittetoe and Tanner Waterhounse both went 1-for-4 in the win as well.
On the hill, Tanner Waterhouse gave up two runs (two earned) on one hit and three strikeouts.
Keota improves to 5-4 with the win, while New London drops to 1-6.
