Eddyville-Blakesburg pushes around Cardinal

The Comets scored first, but they would not score again.

Cardinal?s game at Eddyville-Blakesburg Friday quickly got ugly. The Comets lost 51-6.

Cardinal?s second drive of the game ended with a 55-yard touchdown run by Tyler Albert. Albert would finish the night with only 75. Eddyville-Blakesburg would then score 51 unanswered points.

?We weren?t as consistent as we need to be to give us a chance to win ballgames,? Cardinal head coach Adam Hadenfeldt said. ?We did some good things, but we didn?t do good things consistently.?

Running back Cory Archer tied the game with a 20-yard touchdown run with nine seconds to go in the first quarter. The Rockets would add on 18 points in the second quarter, which made it 25-6 at halftime.

?Defensively we did not have a good night,? Hadenfeldt said. ?We played out of position and we were not able to force Eddyville into doing things that they were not comfortable doing.?

Archer led the Rockets with 139 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Cardinal (1-2) held the ball almost twice as long as Eddyville-Blakesburg did. The Rockets had 11 penalties in comparison to Cardinal?s three. The difference in the game was Eddyville-Blakesburg?s ability to create big plays out of the running game. The Rockets continually scored quickly, and then used their defense to shutdown the Comets. Cardinal was outrushed 226-97.
