VICTOR - Starting quarterback Will Edeker did what he needed to do to get a win for the WACO football team in his first game as ‘QB1.' In his first start, Edeker passed and ran for over 100 yards, including two runs late in the fourth quarter that earned the Warriors a 33-32 win over Hartwick-Ladora-Victor.
The Warriors trailed 32-25 when Edeker dashed down the right side for a 43-yard touchdown run, his fourth of the game. He followed that up with the two-point conversion to give WACO a 33-32 lead, and HLV couldn't respond.
WACO would end the next HLV drive with a fumble recovery. Zach Schmitz sealed the game by jumping on a fumble.
Edeker ended the night 10-for-21 with 124 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception. He ran for 101 yards and four scores. Jonah Clark added 63 yards on the ground for the Warriors.
Schmitz caught four balls on the night for 70 yards and a touchdown. Kolton Connelly also pulled down four catches and finished the night with 33 yards receiving.
Simeon Reichenbach had 12 tackles on the night to lead the defense. Clark ended the night with 6.5 tackles. Reichenbach, Schmitz and Tyler Sutton each had one fumble recovery to help WACO win the turnover battle 3-1.
'We have been in a lot of close games the last couple years, and have not always come out with the win,” said WACO head coach Chad Edeker. 'It was big for us to make the plays we needed to.”
WACO is now 1-0 on the season. They'll head to New London this Friday.
