LONE TREE — Winfield-Mt. Union boys basketball coach Klay Edwards won his 100th career game on Tuesday night, as the Wolves downed Lone Tree 44-36 on the road.
The Wolves played excellent defense in the first half, holding Lone Tree to just two points in the first quarter and eight in the second to go up 17-10 at the break.
The game opened up in the second half. Lone Tree was within five, at 27-22, after three quarters.
WMU scored 17 points in the fourth to help put the game away, and bring its record to 9-3 overall and 9-1 in the North Division.
This sets up a big one on Friday night, as first place Hillcrest Academy comes to town, bringing with it a 10-0 league record. The Ravens are coming off a 36-point win against Columbus in Kalona on Tuesday night.
The league standings also saw a shake up when Pekin beat WACO 44-35 on Tuesday, to jump up into the third place spot. Currently, the Panthers are 7-3 in the league, and the Warriors are 6-3, both right in the thick of the race.
