Eighth-grade boys? track wins pair of meets

A pair of strong days has the Washington boys? eighth-grade track team carrying momentum into a new week.

The Demons claimed meet titles at Ottumwa on Thursday and Lone Tree on Friday, thanks to numerous strong performances.

At Ottumwa, the Demons claimed five first-place finishes, led individually by Trevor Quigley and Ethan Hunt.

Quigley claimed a meet title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.19 seconds, while Hunt claimed a long jump title with a jump of 15 feet ? 9.5 inches.

Three relays earned first-place finishes at the meet as well, led by the 4x800-meter relay team of Collin Greiner, Levi Baumert, Brock Sobaski and Evan Horak, who finished in a time of 10:04.16.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Gabe Zimmer, Justin Simmering, Luke Turner and Hunt claimed first with a time of 4:04.39, while the 800-meter medley team of Quigley, Andrew Kinlow, Gabe Zimmer and Chris Tapia claimed the title in a time of 1:56.62.

At Lone Tree, the Demons claimed another five titles, all coming from their relays.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jarod Smith, Hunt, Turner and Brandon Dickel ran a time of 51.90 to win the relay, while the 4x200-meter team of Zimmer, Simmering, Dickel and Turner won their race.

The 4x400-meter relay team won at Lone Tree again, while the 1600-meter medley relay team of Brady Knutson, Greiner, Tapia and Levi Baumert won their event, as well as the shuttle hurdle relay team of Simmering, Quigley, Knutson and Hunt.
