Eighth-ranked Trojans keep rollin’

The Fairfield varsity baseball team has won six games in a row and five of those contests have come in the last six days with the Trojans accumulating 57 runs scored in that time while allowing just 21 opposing tallies.

The Trojans road-game was fast and furious Thursday night, pounding the beavers every attempt as they piled up eight decisive runs in the top of the first before adding five more in the second, three in the fourth and a 17th and final tally in the fifth.
Stats
Seniors Austin Simpson and Kosta Papazoglou each had three hits along with junior Carter Ferrel. Simpson finished just a triple shy of the cycle, racking up five RBI and two runs scored in four at-bats. K-Pap had two RBI and a run scored while Ferrel had a double, two singles, two RBI and two runs scored. Also hitting safely multiple times were Cooper Drish, Drew Martin and Jackson Weaton who all helped the Trojans accumulate 16 hits, including homers by Weaton and Drish.
Weaton started the game and went 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking one. He also had three RBI at the dish.
Caden Jones came in and tossed 24 pitches of relief over 1 2/3 innings and allowed zero runs on zero hits with one strikeout and one walk.

23-4 Fairfield will finish their season at home on Tuesday when they host Class 3A non-conference, multi-sport rival Solon.

Fairfield sits at No. 8 this week in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association poll with the final rankings released July 15.

Cooper Drish hit his third homerun of the season Thursday night during the Trojans 17-3 win at Wilton.
Senior Jackson Weaton earned the win for FHS and hit a home run as well.
