NEW LONDON — They say records are made to be broken, and WACO’s Ellah Kissell is making a habit of doing just that.
Kissell, who broke the school’s made 3-pointers record, with seven, against Highland in last year’s regional tournament, etched her name in the record books again with a 41-point performance against New London on Saturday night.
Kissell broke the previous record of 34 points, which had been held by Rebecca Mullikin since she took over the top spot during the 1993-94 season.
Kissell led the Warriors to a 70-33 victory, shooting 15-for-25 from the field, 3-for-5 from 3-point land and 8-for-12 from the free throw stripe.
But Kissell didn’t just score. She did it all for the Warriors, coming away with 10 steals, eight rebounds and seven assists. Those 10 steals were another school record, breaking the previous mark of nine, set by Kerri Alvine in 2000-21.
The WACO junior currently scores 19.8 points per game.
The Warriors are currently 8-7 overall and 3-6 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division. They will play at Van Buren County (4-10, 2-6) on Tuesday night.
WACO’s Ellah Kissell draws a triple team during the Warriors’ home game against Winfield-Mount Union during the 2021-22 season. On Jan. 22, 2022, Kissell broke the WACO school record, scoring 41 points in a game. (Andy Krutsinger/The Union)
