MT. PLEASANT — It was the last home game for four Mt. Pleasant volleyball seniors, and the Panthers made the most of it.
After a shaky second set, Mt. Pleasant won the last two to knock off Keokuk in four, taking a Southeast Conference contest 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20.
It was another huge night at the net for senior hitter Kenna Lamm, and she was red-hot early on. Lamm had eight kills in the opening set, helping the Panthers rally back from an early deficit to win by two. Lamm had the game-tying kill at 23-23 and served back-to-back aces to finish it.
“It’s my last home game, so it's pretty emotional,” Lamm said. “It's pretty awesome to win, especially on Homecoming Week.”
The Panthers had a rough second set, as Keokuk led for the vast majority of time before finishing off a 25-19 victory. The Chiefs had all the momentum heading into the third.
“We just had to communicate and go for it,” said the Panthers’ senior libero Reagan Seberg. “It was hard.“
The Panthers had to pull out another nail-biter in the third. The set was tied 22-22 when Jacara Ivey blocked a Keokuk kill attempt to break the tie. Two points later, a kill by Lamm gave the Panthers the set, 25-23.
Mt. Pleasant trailed early in the fourth but battled back to tie the set at 14-14 on an ace by Jersey Beachy. Mt. Pleasant led from that point forward and clinched the match with another Lamm kill that gave the Panthers a 25-20 Set 4 win.
After the final point, the Panthers celebrated on their home floor, as a quartet of seniors; Lamm, Reagan Seberg, Ralyn Seberg and Lydia Ebeling, went out on top.
“They didnt’t give up,” said Mt. Pleasant head coach David Streeter. “They fought through the down times and hung in there long enough to finish the job.”
