MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant senior Ella Ensminger still has one year of track and field to go, but before the season got underway, she had some important business to take care of.
Last week, Ensminger signed her letter of intent to continue her athletic career at Wartburg College in Waverly.
Ensminger says she had been looking toward Wartburg ever since throws coach Shawn Striegel introduced her to the Knight’s coaching staff two years ago.
“I kind of looked at some other options, and then went up there three or four times, and I really decided this was the place for me,” Ensminger said.
Ensminger finished eight place in the Class 3A shot put throw last spring, and then focused on getting healthy for this spring, where the Panthers will look to repeat as Southeast Conference champions.
Ensminger credits the Panther track program for helping her become a next-level athlete, especially Coach Striegel, and head coach Scot Lamm.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” said Ensminger. “I hit the jackpot with both of these coaches, and I’ve had some great role models along the way.”
Ensminger will be jumping into college with enough credits to be a junior. She plans on studying business.
The Panther girls track and field team will start their journey next month when indoor season begins.
