Entire wrestling team advances to Regionals after first place finish at Keokuk

The Washington wrestling team took part in the Class 2A District 4 Sectionals Saturday, Feb. 4, at Keokuk, where the Demons ended the day in first place out of six teams, and allowing the entire team to compete in Regionals action Tuesday.

Individual first place finishers were Walker Ikerd (106 weight class), Kyle Anderson (126), Andrew Waite (138), Trey Van Weelden (152), Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160), Logan Escher (170) and Karlton Skubal (195).

Receiving second place finishes via wrestle back competition were Garrett Ikerd (113), Dillan Sanders (120), Alex Latcham (132), Austin Hazelett (145), Collin Murphy (182), Tanner Murphy (220) and Mitchell Huisenga (285).

Walker Ikerd ? first-place match: won over Jonah Cooper from Fairfield by fall in 1:56.

Garrett Ikerd ? semifinals: won by a 9-5 decision over Tyler Landgrebe from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (EBF); first-place match: lost to Ashton Myers from Keokuk by a 6-0 decision; second place: won by rule over Landgrebe from EBF.

Dillan Sanders ? quarterfinals: won by fall in 1:02 over Hunter Christy from West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville (WBNDD); semifinals: won by an 11-0 major decision over Dalton Boudewyn from Keokuk; first-place match: lost to Sage Walker from EBF by fall in 2:13; second place: won by rule over Boudewyn from Keokuk.

Kyle Anderson ? semifinals: won by fall over Wayne Briggs from WBNDD; first-place match: won by an 18-5 major decision over Dallas Peebler from Fairfield.

Alex Latcham ? semifinals: lost by fall in 4:56 to Alex Hanna from EBF; second place: won by fall in 2:35 over Zach Barnes from Fairfield.

Andrew Waite ? semifinals: won by fall in 1:02 over Mason Roberts from EBF; first place-match: won by fall in 2:13 over Matt Wyatt from Keokuk.

Austin Hazelett ? semifinals: won by fall in 0:26 over Wilston Wuthrich from Davis County (DC); first-place match: lost by a 14-10 decision to Dakota Boyer from EBG; second place: won by rule over Wuthrich from DC.

Trey Van Weelden ? semifinals: won by fall in 0:36 over Caden Hill from DC; first-place match: won by fall in 2:45 over Joey Boyer from EBF.

Tristin Westphal-Edwards ? semifinals: won by fall in 0:20 over Austin Mixer from WBNDD; first-place match: won by fall in 1:15 over Dalton Griffiths from EBF.

Logan Escher ? semifinals: won by fall in 0:58 over Dreyton LaVeine from WBNDD; first-place match: won by fall in 4:06 over Gaige Berryman from EBF.

Collin Murphy ? semifinals: won by a 7-1 decision over Josh Kessel from Fairfield; first-place match: lost by a 13-3 major decision to Austin Angle from EBF; second place: won by rule over Kessel from Fairfield.

Karlton Skubal ? semifinals: won by fall in 0:55 over Austin Tibbits from Keokuk; first-place match: won by a 4-2 decision over Michael Fritz from Fairfield.

Tanner Murphy ? semifinals: won by fall in 7:17 over Matt Cobler from EBF; first-place match: lost to Jerry Glenn from Keokuk 3-1 in the first tiebreaker; second-place match: won over Trenton Hanen from Fairfield 6-4 in sudden victory.

Mitchell Huisenga ? quarterfinals: won by fall in 0:10 over Kaden Champoux from EBF; semifinals: won by a 4-1 decision over Drake Fox from WBNDD; first-place match: lost by a 3-0 decision to Brendon Lunsford from Fairfield; second place: won by rule over Fox from WBNDD.

The team wrestles tonight starting at 6 p.m. in regionals action against Eddyville. If they win, they will go on to face the winner of Williamsburg and Albia.
