FAIRFIELD — Coming into the 2023-24 volleyball season, Fairfield will be without nine total varsity players from a year ago.
Despite losing a lot of the varsity roster, the Trojans bring back a ton of talent from a year ago.
When it came to hitters last season Macy and Maggie Rayburn were two of the most efficient to say the least.
Macy led the Trojans a year ago with 199 kills and a kill efficiency of .215. Maggie finished with 104 kills and a efficiency of .123. That was with over 300 attempts each.
On the bright side, the now junior Lilly Bergren returns. Bergren was the second leading hitter on the squad, tallying 121 kills.
Beyond the top three, the next four to tally double digit kills all come back. They are Rowan Terrell, Addison Ferrel, Maya Lane and Maddie Jones, now all seniors.
Jones herself was huge for the Trojans. She was the leading setter last season amassing 516 total assists.
In the digs department, graduate Kiya Robertson led with 312 total digs.
Bergren followed with 274 digs. After that graduate Coty Engle finished with 166 and then the next five Trojans are all now seniors. That being Jones (161 digs), Savannah Hollander (139 digs), Addison Ferrel (87 digs), Rowan Terrell (59 digs) and Maya Lane (43 digs).
Serving wise, the top two return.
Jones finished with 233 successful serves and Ferrell led the squad with 37 total aces. Terrell and Bergren also had over 200 successful serves and 20 aces.
Fairfield finished the 2022-23 season at 17-17. The Trojans will look to get above .500 this season.
