Fairfield all-stars advance to state

BLOOMFIELD ? The Fairfield Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-stars topped Davis County 12-2 in the district championship game Friday in Bloomfield to advance to the state tournament.
Logan Fleeman tossed four hitless innings and struck out two to lead Fairfield to a 14-2 victory over Mount Pleasant in game one.
Fairfield then topped Davis County 5-3 behind a complete-game performance from starter Robbie Laughlin. Laughlin fanned nine and walked just one in seven innings.
Fairfield lost its third game to Davis County 7-3, but rebounded in the championship game behind starting pitcher Noah Whitten, who allowed two runs and fanned four in 4 1/3 innings to earn the win.
Over the entire tournament, Fairfield hitting leaders were: Logan Fleeman, who went 8 for 14 at the plate with two doubles, one home run and seven runs scored; Alex Simpson, who finished 6 for 11 with one double; and Cole Reighard, who went 5 for 13 with a pair of doubles. Laughlin was 4 for 9 and Whitten finished 3 for 10.
The state tournament will begin Friday in Boone.
