Fairfield all-stars win two vs. Ottumwa, take Babe Ruth state title
OTTUMWA ? Needing two wins to call itself state champs, the Fairfield 13-and-under all-star team stayed hot and bested Ottumwa in the double-elimination tournament Tuesday night.
After losing to Ottumwa just one night prior, Fairfield eased to a 13-0 win to open the night and rallied to win a 12-9 game in the nightcap to claim the state title.
Fairfield now moves on to the Midwest Regional Tournament scheduled...

OTTUMWA ? Needing two wins to call itself state champs, the Fairfield 13-and-under all-star team stayed hot and bested Ottumwa in the double-elimination tournament Tuesday night.
After losing to Ottumwa just one night prior, Fairfield eased to a 13-0 win to open the night and rallied to win a 12-9 game in the nightcap to claim the state title.
Fairfield now moves on to the Midwest Regional Tournament scheduled for Aug. 3-7 in Bismarck, N.D.
In Tuesday?s opener, Tyson Sprouse fired five-innings of two-hit ball, struck out seven and didn?t allow a run to lead Fairfield. Keaton Winn shut down Ottumwa in the final inning and also pitched the final three innings of game two and struck out six to earn the win.
Chase Copeland led the way at the plate combining for five hits, including a triple in game two, and driving in four runs across the two games. Alex Crile picked up four base hits and two RBIs, Winn and Jordan Reid tallied three hits and drove in three apiece and Austin Bartholomew drove in three on three hits.
Bartholomew struck out five in four innings as the game two starter.
The Fairfield offense lit up for 16 hits in game one and picked up 12 in game two.
The team is coached by Brian Reid, Bob Sprouse and Steve Crile.
