CEDAR RAPIDS — Mid-Prairie remained in place at No. 8 and Fairfield fell from the No. 8 slot when the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association released its third weekly rankings for the 2021 boys season for all classes: 1A, 2A, and 3A. The poll only takes into account games played through April 17.
Fairfield dropped three spots in the Class 2A poll on the basis of its loss to Southeast Conference foe Fort Madison. Monday’s overtime loss to Washington will be reflected in next week’s poll.
Fort Madison’s win vaulted the Bloodhounds from a team receiving votes to a place in the top 16, although curiously behind Fairfield at 11. Fort Madison is 13th. Pella is ranked eighth up from 10 and the Dutch lost to Fairfield.
Mid-Prairie is eighth in 1A and still is unbeaten. The top-ranked team was Notre Dame, but it fell to second behind Dyersville Beckman who assumed the top spot without a single first-place vote.
Columbus is receiving votes in 1A. Bryan Miranda of Columbus and Keaton Graber of Mid-Prairie are tied for second in the class with just two goals allowed. Gary Molina of Columbus has more goals (17) than anyone in Class 1A. He is tied for second in points with 36.
Columbus (24) and Mid-Prairie (23) are fourth and fifth in goals scored. Mid-Prairie is second in shots with 124, fourth in points at 61 and fifth in assists with 15.
This is the third in a series of weekly rankings that will conclude with the end of the boys high school regular season. There will be a total of eight rankings for 2021.
