OSKALOOSA — The Fairfield baseball team has momentum on its side heading into the Class 3A substate tournament after a nonconference win over Oskaloosa on Tuesday night.
The Trojans trumped the Indians 5-3 in the final game of the regular season.
Fairfield never trailed, though the Trojans faced plenty of adversity early. Fairfield went up 1-0 in the first inning and 2-1 in the third, but Oskaloosa rallied back to tie the game both times.
With the game tied at 2-2, Fairfield broke the tie with a run in the fourth. The Trojans added to the lead in the fifth to take a 5-2 advantage, and Oskaloosa never caught up.
Brody Angstead went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Trojans. Nate Woodburn went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Brad Smithburg went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Connor Lyons picked up the win on the mound, giving up two runs (one earned) over three innings in relief. Isaac Harris and Brad Woodburn both saw the mound as well.
Fairfield finished the regular season 11-17. They will travel to play at Central DeWitt in the Class 3A Substate 4 quarterfinals on Friday.
