Fairfield boys basketball had a tough end to last week as the Trojans were defeated in a pair of Southeast Conference battles.
The Trojans were bested by Fort Madison 60-37 on Thursday and then Keokuk 60-35 on Friday.
In both SEC matchups, the Trojans couldn’t slow both the Bloodhounds and Chiefs high powered offenses.
Against Fort Madison, the Trojans opened with a 3-2 lead after a converted and one by Sam Weaton just a minute into the game.
However, the Bloodhounds scored the next 10 points and they would never trail.
Riley Perkin drilled a three with 55 seconds to go to make it a six point game, 12-6, but a two at the buzzer by Fort Madison pushed it to 14.
The closest the Trojans got the rest of the way out was five points, which came early in the second frame.
A Weaton three to begin the following quarter cut it to five, 14-9, but Fort Madison closed out the period on a 14-8 run.
At the break, Fairfield trailed 28-17.
Fort Madison continued to tack it on in the third. The Bloodhounds poured in a game high 17 points in the third, while holding the Trojans to just seven, which only extended the Trojan deficit, 45-24.
The Bloodhounds went on to take the fourth as well, 15-13, to close it out.
Against Keokuk, the Trojans found themselves down just six, 16-10, after one quarter of action. Similar to the previous game, Keokuk was able to extend its lead with a dominant second quarter.
Fairfield was held to just four points to the Chiefs 15 in the second quarter, which made it a 31-14 ballgame after a half.
The game was much closer through the final 16 minutes, but Keokuk came out on top in the second half scoring battle, 29-21.
With the two losses, Fairfield drops to 0-8 in SEC play and 1-14 overall.
